Project
Phelps Youth Club was a new pilot project launched by Phelps Helps, a non-profit in the Stanstead area that offers educational and career support to children, teens and young adults.
The Youth Club offers an after school club for teens 12 – 17 that includes workshops, sports and other social activities.
Brief
Gancz Creations requested I design a logo, drawing on the existing Phelps brand colours of deep blue, teal, and deep yellow.
The logo should appeal to teens, be colourful, eye-catching, and fun. Gancz provided me with a mood board for inspiration. Among the mood board images are multicolour logos with overlapping elements, transparency, and gradients. These are the elements I used when beginning the first drafts.

Initial Drafts
Of my initial designs, three were presented to the client (variations 1, 3 and 4) along with a fourth designed by Gancz (variation 2).
In the first variation I played with overlapping letters and emphasized the geometric circular and triangle shapes produced by the letters and overlapping segments.
In the third and fourth variations I introduced gradients in two distinctive styles.

Finished Logo
The client showed a preference for the first variation, but also like variation three. At this stage they requested that:
- Variation 1 be developed further, but that it be made more legible
- That a gradient as seen in Variation 3 be added to Variation 1
The final logo seen to the left is the result of these changes. Some overlapping sections remain, however the placement of letters makes each letter easier to discern. A gradient was placed on the letter C.
Greyscale and all black versions were also created. In the case of the all black version, the letters were spaced out for maximum legibility.

Flyer
The logo was used on a flyer I designed for Gancz to advertise the grand opening of the youth club.
The flyer uses energetic colours like bright yellow, bold pink and teal alongside images of teens who have participated in past Phelps Helps programs.

Webpage
I was also asked to design a webpage for the Phelps Youth Club for the Phelps Helps website.
I used page dividers with gradients to tie the page’s aesthetic to that of the logo. A basic version of the flyer is also shown on the webpage alongside information about the club and images of students who have participated in Phelps programming.
