Rococo Zephyr Vintage

The primary logo for the vintage clothing shop Rococo Zephyr is show against a lavender coloured background. The words "Rococo Zephyr" in shades of deep violet-blue and lavender sit inside of a creme coloured cloud. There is a wavy underline that separates the words and that represents a gust of wind. The letters "R" and "Z" are oversized and stylized.

Project

Rococo Zephyr is a brand based on my Etsy shop that sells vintage clothing. At the outset, the shop had a striking name, but little thought had gone towards the visual brand identity and logo.

Over the course of this project, I would design a new logo, a branding board, a business card, a stationary set, a poster, a homepage for a future website, and social media banners.

Branding

I gathered information about the business’ goals, competitors and ideal customer. The result was a client persona driven towards unique looks and a brand concept centered on wonder, creativity and curiosity.

A woman wearing a vintage hat and jacket is shown looking over her shoulder. Her colouring has been transformed by a gradient using the brand colours of deep blue-violet and lavender. To her right, facts about her personality and lifestyle are described.
The brand concept of "wonder, creativity, and curiosity" is described over a lavender sky. A creme coloured cloud covers the lower third of the image.

Logo Design

The logo began with a custom ‘R’ and ‘Z’ submark. Inspired by wind symbolism, the lettering features gentle curves that create a graceful sense of movement.

The primary logo was then developed around the ‘R’ and ‘Z’, with the cloud and wind shapes emphasizing the whimsical and eccentric nature of the brand.

The three logo variations allow for a wide-variety of applications – from clothing tags to packaging, from business cards to web banners for social media.

Branding Board

The brand colours were chosen to reflect creativity and femininity (lavender), mystery (deep blue-violet), and whimsy (pale blue).

The brand fonts combine the funkiness of Benny Black, with the refinement of Apparat Light.

The mood board includes other inspiring vintage clothing brand logos as well as cloud and wind imagery.

Poster

A poster was created to advertise the site launch.

The wrought iron spiral staircase, a common architectural feature of the city of Montreal, is centered to draw attention to the brand’s connection to the city – known for its historical garment district and its contemporary culture of thrifting and vintage boutiques.

The poster also introduces the angled lavender triangle motif that is also used as a decorative element on the website. The angle adds to the dynamism and movement of the visuals and signals the creative “off-kilter” nature of the brand.

A promotional poster advertising the launch of the Rococo Zephyr website hangs against a lavender-colour interior wall. The poster shows a woman standing on a wrought iron spiral staircase. She is wearing a floor-length vintage plaid skirt. The heading reads "we are making our grand entrance." The brand's submark logo is displayed at the center-bottom at the foot of the stairs.
A realistic mockup of two copies of the promotional poster for the Rococo Zephyr brand is shown. The posters are posted to an exterior poster board, and slightly weathered and crumpling around the edges.
The promotional poster for Rococo Zephyr Vintage is show as a large-scale bus stop ad in an urban street. Above the main poster, a banner with the secondary logo is shown.

Website

A mockup of the website homepage was created for both desktop and mobile screens.

The homepage features the decorative angled triangle element as a section divider, and a custom footer that draws on the lavender cloud imagery.

New products are featured prominently on the home page.

The image displays a mockup of a website on a laptop. Laid around the laptop are a series of images that show the entire length of the webpage. The webpage is for a vintage clothing site called Rococo Zephyr. Images of clothing are shown, a short description of the business, and a custom footer. The laptop and images are presented against a soft grey background.
The mobile version of the homepage of the website for Rococo Zephyr Vintage is shown on a mobile phone screen.
